Stephen C. Apostolof, 1968<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Friday! A calm weekend is coming (for me)
after a hard-working and boring week. I feel lazy and I think I should watch a
film with a easy argument. So it’s a perfect night to watch “College Girls”,
directed and produced by Stephen C. Apostolof.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">The Bulgarian-American filmmaker has a long filmography and he worked in many films doing another kind of jobs. He was specializing in low-budget exploitation and erotic films (now you can imagine what you can find in “College Girls”). Maybe you know his name because he directed “Orgy of the Dead” (although he is accredited as A. C. Stephen here), a film in which the infamous Ed Wood was responsible for the screenplay.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">“College Girls” happened without any important response. It’s not a famous film in the sexploitaton genre. But if you like black and white erotic films, 60s stuff and psychedelia, this is for you!! </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Scraps debut 7'' is here! The three piece punk combo are introducing an EP with four energetic and raw songs in which punk '77 is the main influence for them. Just add a bit of Buzzcocks, Ramones and modern bands like The Briefs or The Vicious and you get the sound of The Scraps. Each song is easily enjoyable from the beginning to the end. They have a very good taste playing melodic and catchy riff guitars. "Waste my time" is an absolutely hit!!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And not just that. They have a special care with the aesthetic and design of their records. There are 3 variations of this 7”: the regular version is the printed collage cover (there are 10 different designs for this), the limited edition (100 only) are hand made from vintage Vogue magazines from the 1970’s and 1980’s. And the third and super-limited version (just 50) is an actual collaged cover. All different and were hand made by Marco NFT. Real art. Real "Do It Yourself" style!! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">They have announced many gig dates for the next months. They will play supporting bands as The Vibrators or Giuda. So if you belong to the class of punk'77 and fancy attend to a gig of punk made in London, don't miss The Scraps!!!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Possibly the loudest power-pop
band on Earth? Definitely... yes!! You can check it either in their shows or in this
EP with four songs released by Wanda Records (a label about <a href="http://banzai-rnr.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/prima-donna-bless-this-mess-wanda.html" target="_blank">we talked a time ago</a>).</span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpKM5YlAnJX7tXDi14ePg8Qm8q8YuKAtj-o3sYGs2Oy6BO1encRLcFioMiaCIfunSwRWknfR_9P-C5Uj8TQOGyqMVHNvLh8KXEo0ZT3wPGpF_0y5maRjlKVa-p6Z7wsIw9MtRKU3gwz38/s1600/DSCN2335.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpKM5YlAnJX7tXDi14ePg8Qm8q8YuKAtj-o3sYGs2Oy6BO1encRLcFioMiaCIfunSwRWknfR_9P-C5Uj8TQOGyqMVHNvLh8KXEo0ZT3wPGpF_0y5maRjlKVa-p6Z7wsIw9MtRKU3gwz38/s1600/DSCN2335.JPG" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Although they tag themselves as
a power-pop band, Los Pepes play punk music… with lots of pop melodies. I’ve
been listening this record and I even remembered the sound of some bands were
playing in the 1990s. So “Tonight” gives the name to this EP and it has all of
that: punk energy and melody, which means you fancy have good vibes and have
fun! It has become a hit for the band. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I can’t help remembering to the
four New Yorkers from Queens when I listen to the beginning of “Too Late”. This
is another ‘power’ tune with killer guitar. So it is easy to think the people
go crazy when they play this song in the gigs!</span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">On the flip we have “Unknown”.
We could say this is the most power-pop tune in the record, with a very
Exploding Hearts style. And the last song is “Somebody Else”. This is one of my
favourite songs of Los Pepes. The early singles of The Hard-Ons come to my
head. They have a really good taste!</span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSmWbzSodmiKIdWXXz6OE-qcXCBLy77O1tpE_2XQNYo_JN8u4fto2qIbZGwkLUz91oV25cycrDVxk5Sq3g5U2QWNiFlYBk8O0HciMJ_ue65heE-04gdLQrsk2XLNq8AFN2PTF_UPwkFqE/s1600/pepes1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSmWbzSodmiKIdWXXz6OE-qcXCBLy77O1tpE_2XQNYo_JN8u4fto2qIbZGwkLUz91oV25cycrDVxk5Sq3g5U2QWNiFlYBk8O0HciMJ_ue65heE-04gdLQrsk2XLNq8AFN2PTF_UPwkFqE/s1600/pepes1.png" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So I have added another color
record to my collection and I will use this review for the <a href="http://banzai-rnr.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/vinilocolor" target="_blank">vinilocolor </a>section
of this blog. It has been released on red color, yellow color… My copy is like the
picture above. Honestly, I’m not really sure if it is fuchsia, magenta, purple…
Anyway, I think Elvis would have loved it. If you don’t know about this, it’s
because you don’t know about the story of the grapes and the 1956 Eldorado cadillac.
At least, I see that color…</span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Enjoy it!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i><br /></i></span></div>

<div class="MsoNoSpacing">

¡Pero qué buen gusto tienen!</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i><span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></i></span>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I can't describe all the feelings and emotions Ronnie Spector gave us the night of the 9th of March at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Just amazing. Just M-A-G-I-C.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">"Beyond The Beehive" was a multimedia performance which Ronnie performed a few of her classic tracks including The Ronettes songs.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">She talked about her life with words, songs and pictures. She couldn' help to mention to her ex-husband, of course. And this is the picture she very ironically showed us of him...:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And she talked about when she was a Frankie Lymon fan, the beginning at the Peppermint Lounge, Joey Dee, Murray The K, American Bandstand, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, the UK tour, Brian Wilson, Joey Ramone... We sang The Ronettes songs, she payed tribute to Amy Winehouse and we danced "Be My Baby" just to a few meters from her at the end of the show.
</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Goosebumps all the time!!!! I will never forget those moments.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here you have a lovely description about how a teenage girl was for the comic-book writer Al Hartley in 1957.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">According to these pages, I will tell what a teenager is in my own words: </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">"What is a Teen-Ager? A teen-ager has an unbelievable knowledge of rock'n'roll music. She can drive her parents insane... or melt their hearts. No one can laugh as loud or cry as wet! A teen-ager dislikes getting up in the morning, gaining weight, doin the homework... But she likes drinking soda, clothes, magazines, movie stars... and she loves as crazy records, DJs and dancing!".</span></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Al Hartley was an American comic-book writer artist in the 1950s. He created "Patsy and Hedy" and a few of Christian stories (he became a born again Christian en 1967). </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First purchase of the year? Yes, it is! Although it may sounds as it had been recorded at early-mid 60s, this is a little gem from 1967 released by Parkway Records. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Hangin’ Round”).</span>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

“So Blue” y “Leave Her For Me”.
Murray The K (“Do you remember Murray the K…?”) y gracias a ello, cuenta Lou

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
“Merry Go Round”.

“Out of Sight!” y “Soundsville”.

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
“Why Don’t You Smile Now” de los All-Night Workers.

“The
Nico”. <o:p></o:p></span></span><br />

<span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i>Lou Reed passed away a few weeks ago
and it was a really shock for me. He never was one of my favourite artists, but
he always was present in many chapters of my life. I remember when I started to

Finally, time has gone by and now I am able to appreciate that songs full of
vice and perversion. And about solo works, some essential tunes that I heard

and “Leave Her For Me”. At present this is a collector piece for every doo-wop
lover, not just because it is the first record by Lou Reed, but because it
sounds amazing! This record was played and it took popularity thanks to DJ
Murray The K (“Do you remember Murray the K…?”). Lou Reed told the gained 78
cents for royalties. Besides, King Curtis was the session musician in charge of
the saxo sound. I’ve said: this is a totally gem!</i></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i><br /></i></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i>There are a couple of songs in
the same way that Lou (now Lewis Reed) recorded as a solo artist in 1962. But
they didn’t were released until year 2000: “Your Love” and “Merry Go Round”.
Both can be found in Rockin’ On Broadway comp of Ace records as well as in an
EP that the best label in the world (that called Norton Records) released in
that time under the name “All Tomorrow’s Dance Parties” together with the
another two songs he recorded with The Jades. This is essential if you are a
Lou Reed follower as well as if you love 50s rock’n’roll.</i></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i><br /></i></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i>Later, as soon as he finished the
University, he started a new musical stage in Pickwick Records as songwriter
and session musician. A few tunes were born and they may don’t pass into music
history by their innovation or quality, but it doesn’t mean they are cheap
tunes. On the contrary! “Cycle Annie” by The Beachnuts is one of them. Lou Reed
co-wrote and sang in this song and you can hear his guitar. It never was
released as a single in those years but it was recorded to appear in “Out of
Sight!” and “Soundville” comps. In the latter, you can find what has become one
of the last findings that have made me do crazy once again: “You're Driving Me
Insane” by The Roughnecks.
</i></span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><br /></i>
<i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">So, he met John Cale working with
Pickwick Records in these years and they collaborated for the first time. They
worked in the songwriting of “Why Don’t You Smile Now” by The All-Night
Workers. This is a classic garage song and it would be covered by Downliners
Sect or Dr. Explosion years later.</span></i></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i>
</i></span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">And it is thanks to this
friendship when The Primitives are born. If we have to talk about the roots of
The Velvet Underground we would have to go back to this band.</span></i></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i>
</i></span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i>The Primitives just recorded two
songs: “Sneaky Pete” and “The Ostrich”. I don’t know how the sound would be in
those years, but today that sound is dirty and outrageous. They are an example
about what Lou Reed would do in the experimental years with The Velvet
Underground. In fact, “The Ostrich” is a parody of popular dance songs of the
time. And Lou created the term “ostrich guitar” thanks to this song. He would
use this technique in some of the songs of the album “The Velvet Underground
& Nico”. </i></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i>
</i></span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Lou Reed made this and many more
as a session musician before record one of the essential albums in the music
history. Every recording can be found in compilations, singles, reissues and
‘bootlegs’ of The Velvet Underground. Of course, feel free to check out <a href="http://www.youtube.com/" target="_blank">YouTube</a>
if you wish to hear any of these tunes!</span></i></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Naciente.
Sannin Otoko</i> (“Three Rockabillies”).</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Elvis Presley y Eddie Cochran, pasando por Little Richard o Neil Sedaka.
</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">No tengo palabras
para este disco. Es sencillamente PERFECTO. Ninguna canción mala. ¡Atentos al
instrumental “Racey Roller”!
